Well- I just acquired the Nimda virus- or some bullshit virus that doesn't allow you to access your folders (denied) and such... I didn't think much of it until I rebooted...
It wouldn't boot up, most of the startup files were missing or corrupt- so I did a clean install of Windows (because I have 2 partitions, 1 for windows, the other for apps and such) I didn't think much of my other files would be affected.
Now running on a reinstalled version of WinXP- ALL my folders, including Trillian, all my music (10 gbs worth) all my dvds (20 gb worth) and all my documents (being a law student, THIS is what is going to make me pass, I'd risk my life for these documents) are all 'access denied'- I searched for hours on end looking for faqs and such- but still nothing. I even tried my Norton AV- and it can't find the bloody thing...
If anyone can help me salvage this stuff- I'd REALLY appreciate it...

dont use norton...
nimda can be removed from files... and some time from exe ( although not alway working)
the denied access comes likely from your anti virus |

Yes... is Norton preventing you from accessing the files? Or can you simply not acces them using the assigned default application for opening files of that type? If so, temporarily disable, uninstall (whatever) Norton and burn those damn files to a CD before it's too late.
To simplify... can you at least copy you important files to a CD?
My guess is that the virus was embedded in an .EXE file of an application that was on one of the secondary partitions. When you ran that application, it reinfected the whole machine... back to square one. Just a thought... hard to say without putting my own eyes on the machine.
Anyway, this link may help. It is Symantec's details on the virus. It's a pretty lengthy document and removal would require some effort.

I browse the web a lot and when I do, I will often see little Norton virus alerts pop up telling me that it has found and deleted Nimda files. This has happened *a lot*. But, I have yet to have any troubles with it. _________________ KitsuneJin - Fox Person

Uhh... AIM? MSN? Cable Internet? Um... Planetside? Warcraft III? I don't know. I seldom if ever look up porn or anything like that. Other than that I don't know what it could be... _________________ KitsuneJin - Fox Person
