|
|
If you haven't noticed, when you're in the Forum Index there is a small area at the bottom that tells you how many people are on the forums...now, right below there there is an option to use a chat interfece! It's a small window that opens up so you can chat with other people while you're browsing the forums! Great for small talk and things that don't need to be kept recorded int he forums!
I plan on using it whenever I'm on to answer questions and things immediately instead of having to wait for me to get to your posts!

| the chat is nice but could there be a way to alert someone you want to talk to them in chat when you see them online. Private mail tends to take too long for that... |

I'd like to see that too. Overall it would just be nice to have an "instant message" thing built into the forums for sending a quick message to somebody. The problem here is that a quick message popup window can only show up when the person receiving the message (re)loads a forum page; there is no way to "send" the message request to the target user in the web environment.
One good thing about this, though, is that while the chat window is open it auto-refreshes itself every 10 seconds, therefore, instant messages could pop up in a very timely manner in that case.

Other things on the chatbox idea list, post more if you have any:
- Put a timestamp on each message spoken in the chat window
- Have an option to temporarily pause the chat window refresh, so that you can go back and read what was said before without it constantly jumping back down to the bottom
- Make the chatbox size adjustable by dragging the edges
- Sometimes messages seem to show up in the wrong order, or smilies temporarily don't show as smily graphics -- fix

We would use IRC definitely, but there are a few problems..
1. People behind a firewall (at work) can't access IRC, even via a web-based java client (because the connection is still made by the local computer).
2. All java irc clients I've used so far are either lame, or don't work right under any number of circumstances.
3. People shouldn't have to download an irc client, or learn irc commands, to chat here.
This is why we went with a chatbox instead of IRC.

Chatbox updated
Following changes have been made:
1. You can now resize the chatbox window. Yay!
2. You can also resize the different subsections of the chatbox as you see fit.
3. Messages are now timestamped.

| Good stuff and I agree with you on all counts regarding the use of an IRC client. |

Yes, think about me. The clueless pnöt.
I have no idea how it works. And I have seen others use it and it looked extremely messy and boring.

| I recently noticed the pages of the Dyso homepage are at war with eachother, vying for who is allowed to be on top. For no apparent reason pages seem to jump to the front, even for example while i'm typing this the main page suddenly decides it wants to be on top... |

There's only 1 possibility why u can't join: U don't have java installed
But if I recall, u were actually @ the server before right?
#Dysotopia , java@24.62.68.45 , Sunday 27-10-2002 , 19:00:30 , Connection reset by peer (TCP/IP connection broken)
All users for 24.62.68.45 :
1 : Glorin
1 users found!
Anyway, there IS an alternative possibility,
http://130.89.169.34:8000/hclient/frames/default.htm?&room=dysotopia
It's the HTML client. Use that instead if u can't use otherwise |
