(Was originally going to post on the end of the pp'ing topic but I wrote alot so I decided to put it in its own topic) ((Also not really a complaint/rant but I didnt know where else to put it))
You know, its not really related to the topic, but I am deviating in the way that people can not always be what they seem to be.
I won't mention names.
For instance, I stole an axe from someone, nothing said, not even suspicion, later on he is giving it "You stole my axe!! You shall die!!", naturally I try to sway him around saying im not a thief but he wont have it, at this point he is probably very angry and a dwarf (probably a fighter from what my char can see, level 8 fighter level 8 barb level 1 rogue from what he actually was). After a while of trying to sway him, I figure he is a stubborn dwarf who wants my blood indefinately so I bid him adieu and go to Kraven to set up a trap. I then ((PM)) sent a messenger to tell him that a friend of his (not online) and myself wanted to exchange words so that we could all be friends again (was gonna kill him =D ).
Anyway, he ignores me, I send more word, when I get word back he is not coming to meet me, so I venture to find him. Upon finding him in Elerinna I tried to get him to come with me to meet our friend. The dwarf at this point says something along the lines of "Do you think I'm stupid?", I now know he wont come by clever thief trickery since he (obviously) is a pretty smart dwarf. I get a friend I had laying in wait to come and talk to him with me.
Now going down a different approach we started to insult him, call him really nasty names, call him a coward and the like, insulting his clan name saying they should disown him, etc, while taunting him to come follow us. I am not sure how smart he was but surely he (having the bloodlust and theoretically the stupidity of dwarfs) would have come with us? He sent me a PM later saying could we fight in el north, but im not into el north unless its for fun =D then another PM saying he didnt want to die because he would lose exp =/
Then the server crashed and I lost about 8 strong negative traps and 1 strong elec I had planted. =/
Does the reluctancy to lose experience allow people to override their characters so that they can not be drawn into a situation which may or may not mean certain death?
Also, do people pay much attention to their characters intelligence or similar stats? I always play reasonable-max intelligent characters so I can let loose a wide range of long words to dumbfound others with. Do others with a 10 intel think they can ignore that they arent that clever and thus so well spoken? I don't know I am speculating, as I said before this isn't quite a rant.
Well anyway, I think he wants an ooc conflict whereas myself and the people that were trying to trap him just wanted to RP the situation (as we are assasins). I do not think we would have employed such a frontal tactic if it was a wizard or the like who might be wise to our plans and then be more cautious. |

There will always be lamers. There is no way to really enforce something like this. He was lame, nothing more to it.
If I had the power, I would have banned him. |

Kindo, that's so lame.
But yes, people will do anything to avoid losing experience. And I think that's a valid reason to avoid conflict. Just because you decide you want to assassinate me, does that mean I should be punished by losing 2,000+ XP? Nope. Maybe instead of that, you could lure them out and knock 'em down to 'Near Death' and tell them to walk away or THEN you'll kill 'em totally. Call that an assassination - and it won't get people as pissed off. _________________ "Great warrior? Ah! Wars not make one great!"

Hehe, well if it was another character as I said I may have employed certain stalking tactics instead of a full frontal "You clan should get rid of you you puny weakling coward dwarf" *smiles*
Although, if I was in his situation I wouldnt be hanging around in Elerinna, try to avoid that place if at all possible since people wait about talking knowing perfectly well they are safe from my hands and my blade. But of hypothetically I would have had my apphrensions, checked my characters profile to double check, check and triple check and quadruple check, then go. It sounds bizarre but I may have found it fun to get properly assasinated. Hehehe |

Also, I did kill him later =D Much to a certain druids and several onlookers disgust.
Nice RPing from him then, kind of, apart from the seemingly random attacking me (while Im in mid sentence lol) Was about to walk away but he insulted me when he was Badly wounded (not a good idea while im improved invis )
Afterwhich I think the server crashed, I was quite prepared to kill the druid and the onlookers... I don't like witness'

I think you'll find this is usually how we operate. The only people we tend to kill straight off is stubborn people and classes such as Half-Orcs. Becuase if you don't finish it, you soon end up dead.

Kindo, I totally and completely see where you're coming from. Trust me, when I used to DM I'd seriously ask people if what they were or were not doing was really what their character would do, and if I still thought that it wasn't, I'd penalize them somehow. But we cannot do that here. So oh well, I say, we have to move past it, because otherwise we'll just be disliking people for following Human Nature. Some people can overcome this or set it aside and just RP no matter what, other people won't or can't. Myself, I'm guilty of XP selfishness sometimes, other times I'm not. So let it roll, it's all good, just play and have fun... _________________ "Great warrior? Ah! Wars not make one great!"

I don't know how many times i've been killed where I knew beforehand that I would. It's part of roleplay, people that act themselves when it should be their character just don't have a clue. _________________ Your friendly but rather insane office worker...
