Well, as some ppl know i have been using a really crappy computer for a while now, well not anymore! i upgraded CPU, RAM and Motherboard. my new specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.833 ghz)
1024 megs DDR 2700 (dual channel)
Radeon 8500 64 meg <--- upgrading that next
HA beat that! 
PS: No, Gorb I dont wanna see the million dollar server again

hey, if you got the right motherboard you should go ahead and overclock that athlon (hope it's a barton, right?). My two 2500+ bartons run fine at FSB200*11=2.2 GHz ~ XP3200+. though you need new memory chips for full performance then  |

Athlon 2700+ (Just recently upgraded to, had an Athlon 2000+)
1024 MB DDR PC2700
GeForce FX 5600 256 MB DDR (Also just upgraded. Had a GeForce4 TI 4200 128 but it died on me  )
How's that?

ah crap, its restarting every now and then... im pretty sure its cuz the mobo automatically does that if the CPU gets too hot... thats a good feature huh? lol damn what should i do? i have 2 case fans already and they are right next to the CPU

well i openned up my case and that seemed to solve the heat problem but when opening an area in the toolset my comp crashed... it told me it was the graphics card though...

No dont do that until your system is running stable. You start messing with that stuff and you can make your computer run in worse shape.
One thing you may want to try is a larger heatsink and fan on your CPU. I know the stock ones that have been comming out lately havent always been getting al the proper cooliung they need. Find something aftermarket that will really scream. And make sure you use some good CPU grease, the stock stuff I find runs from 5 - 10 degrees celcius higher than something like Arctic Silver. If you are worried about your video card overheating, try and find a fan from a 486 heatsink and slap that on there(If you can find one). It might take a bit to rig up, but it pushes a little more air than the stock ATI fan.

One thing you never did mention, what do you have for a motherboard? And, what kind of power supply do you have? One thing that was mentioned is that if the power supply is failling on you, it may reboot your system. Use something like an Enermax power supply, and no less than 350watts when you have an Athlon XP (I've seen them run on alot less, but I really wouldn't trust it).
Watch the voltages on the Power Supply and make sure that everything is where it should be.

nah the video card is fine, just when i overclock the CPU i get a video card failure when trying to open an area in toolset... i think ill just not overclock, i mean, its really fast as it is with dual channel ram

Hehe, I like to sell arctic silver to "enthusiasts" too, cause the difference is 2.50€ for a very small tube of arctic silver vs. 0€ for a very big tube of standard thermal grease coming with the cooler, but since arctic silver became popular, we never managed to get more than a single degree celsius temperature difference when a customer let us replace stock grease/heatpads with arctic silver compared to identicall systems (and i'm inclined to say that that difference lies within the margin of error). |

well macs CPUs have been better except for G4, and the OS is WAY WAY better, i mean windows is just utter crap, but i use it for compatibility reasons AND i can make my own PC which is fun linux is better too but i want to play games so i use windows
btw: dont tell me that G4 is good, i saw benchmarks, they had to use dual processors to keep up, how sad is that? and they beat the single P4 system by much less than 100%
btw again: and sep, dont argue with a geek about geeky stuff, you know he's right
